Will this still be useful with the release of .NET 3.5?

Yes. Really the whole point of the Client class is to provide a nicer abstraction layer on top of the .net HttpWebRequest/HttpWebResponse objects, which are more or less unchanged from 2.0 -> 3.5.

In fact, the source code already contains a Visual Studio 2008 solution including a .net 3.5 project.
